I’ve just returned from our almost daily hike to the waterfall with 3-year-old Lily and 9-month-old Quinn in the backpack. Spring is clearly here! The recent rain has caused the waterfalls to virtually explode. There is so much power and emergence happening right outside our door. Even the little mellow “zen” waterfall is bursting forth.

Everything around here is pretty much green and brown. The forest is so densely vegetated that everything out there has until now seemed old and layered and fermenting. Bright green energetic sprouts are bursting through the crusty layers of old leaves, moss, fallen branches.

My daughter said, “Mom, look at the trillium.” Sure enough, plenty of bright white, wet trillium are scattered throughout the forest. We also saw some yellow, purples, blues and reds. They stand out so beautifully against the soggy dark greens and browns of the forest floor.

Claire and Kim opened up this gorgeous place to us, and we’ve been here about a month now. Finally getting settled and used to the pace. Now I’m experience such a beautiful shift in my thinking it feels so perfect that it’s spring. I feel reborn in my awareness of the earth and my own imprint on it.

Simply daily tasks, like cleaning up after dinner, grocery shopping and putting out the trash have changed irrevocably. Scraps that don’t contain meat, fat or bones go into the small kitchen composter with it’s amazing odor containing filter. When that’s full, it goes out to the big ‘un. All paper, glass, cardboard, plastic, etc. that can be recycled are put in their respective recepticles. Grocery shopping now inludes decisions no longer based on price, but on recyclablity, packaging, chemicles. And I try to remember my cloth bags. Just trying to do my part!

Changing the world is about making new, small decisions differently every day!

Check out our gallery to see the beauty that surrounds us and the unbelievable work the girls have done to make this house a home.

Welcome Spring!
